Client's Most Unusual Requests

“I had one couple whose only child was a Himalayan cat named Ginger Rose. Ginger’s “daddy” brought her a fresh rose daily, because her middle name was “Rose,” and "she liked to sniff it." When I pet sat for Ginger, I had to fill her water bowl with the biggest mound of ice I could squeeze in and then fill the basin with bottled water – because Ginger only liked chilled bottled water. Ginger needed her bowl of "Snackie-Poos" filled constantly and kept in a certain place by daddy's easy chair. I asked the couple if Ginger would ever have a brother or sister. The couple informed me that they wouldn’t commit to anything until they consulted a pet psychic – which they planned to do ASAP. (Ginger must have said no, because they still have only one cat!) The couple also informed me that I must leave the TV on at all times, (tuned in to Animal Planet), and to leave all of the lights on so Ginger would not have to find her way around in the dark.”

“This isn't really outrageous, but I have never been asked to go to these lengths before. I have a client with a 14-year-old beagle mix. The dog had just lost her "sister" and the owners thought that she was feeling down as a result. As it turned out, she was “down” because she needed to have her gall bladder removed! The owners had already mourned the loss of one dog and were getting ready to go on a 10-day cruise – so they took the dog in for surgery and asked me to visit her in the hospital (she had a five-day hospital stay.) The veterinary hospital was in another town about 40 miles away. I gladly went and visited to help cheer her up until her owners returned home.”
